Don’t Miss Out on Summer Just Because You’re in the Office

The first day of summer isn’t until June 20th this year, but the weather is warm (and getting warmer for midwest and southern states), the days seem longer, and the last thing we want to do is sit in an office all day.

Feel like you’re missing out? Here are 9 tips to bring summer to your office:

Work outside.

Lucky for us, we have an amazing patio with Wi-Fi capabilities to cozy up on when we want to work outside. But for those without a patio, anywhere outside will work. Almost everywhere has public Wi-Fi now, if you need it, you’ll likely find it near you.

Company BBQ Lunch.

Many companies are already providing lunch for their employees; why not suggest a BBQ day with all the fixins? The afternoon meat coma is worth it.

Scream for Ice Cream.

When that 2 o’clock feeling hits, opt for a sugar rush. Call a local food truck and set up a time for the ice cream (or Sno-Cone) truck to come to your office for an afternoon snack.

Summer Flex Time.

Instead of using PTO, check with your manager on how you can implement and use flex time. Some companies are open to the idea of changing work schedules for the summer to start earlier and end earlier, and the sooner you can hit the pool in the afternoon, the better!

Theme Days.

Flannel Fridays. Hawaiian shirt Tuesdays. On Wednesdays we wear pink. Theme days can help with morale (because you’re not the only one in the office who feels like summer is passing you by).

Fresh Flowers.

Nothing brightens up an office quite like a bouquet of fresh flowers. They make the office smell good while boosting everyone’s mood.

Happy Hours.

Ice cream is great, but nothing quenches your thirst like an ice-cold beer. Get your office together after work at the closest happy hour with an outdoor patio.

Bike Rides.

If you have a long commute, stretch your legs a little before heading home with a bike ride. Or a run. You will save time by getting your workout in and not sitting in traffic for hours on end. Check out Montague Bikes, they have foldable bikes for easy transport!

Out-of-Office Education.

Search for conferences, forums, or summits in your field, in your immediate area or in driving distance (to limit travel costs for your company). You get out of the office for a day and it will be educational. Many companies will offer to foot the bill for personal growth, or networking opportunities.
