“Sometimes I take candidates up to our rooftop terrace and have breakfast with them during the interview,” Shai says. “Thrown off by the relaxed atmosphere, I like to see how they cope.” Are they easily adaptable? Can they work when things aren’t the norm? Can they still focus when forced into a noisy, bustling environment? “These are vital characteristics for anyone joining the Wix team,” he says. “So it’s important for me to vet them from the start.”
What people dislike in you? This unconventional question can really keep one sweating as one has to reply this with a lot of tact and humor. Without being self-critical or negative one has to make an answer which justifies the fact along with a tint of positivity in it.
Oddball questions do get a well prepared candidate “off script” and can be a good way to see if they can think on their feet, he says. However, it’s unclear if an odd ball question is superior at getting to the truth than a direct question.”
What does your best friend do for a living? This is a great question for learning more about how a candidate views the people in their lives, and how invested they are in learning the details about them. Whether a candidates best friend is a rocket scientist or a rock guitarist, asking them this question will provide some insight.
Creative and catchy ads can be a game changer for the hiring companies. They get the more attention than classic job ads and get shared across social media because of the emotions they cause. Looking at these job ads, candidates think that the interview will be interesting and enjoyable. Creative job ads also build your employer brand, making your companies cooler places to work for.
You may choose to liven up your interviews and make them a fun experience for both the candidates and your interviewers. But make sure that non-traditional doesnt mean contentious. Never bait, challenge, insult, or belittle candidates with the questions you choose. Dont ask them to describe their weaknesses (this is outdated and unwise) and dont ask them what kind of cartoon character they would choose to be or what breakfast cereal they would want on a desert island. These unprofessional blunders can damage your reputation and alienate talented applicants.
Talking about part-time work specifically helps you gauge how the candidate feels about working part-time (is it ideal or something they are doing until they can find full-time work?). Asking about what the person doesnt like about working part-time may let you know the candidate really wants a full-time job, or it may identify an area where your company can shine by offering better training or new opportunities.
