Duties & Responsibilities
Purpose of Position:
This class of positions encompasses responsible professional work in the field of preventive dental care. All personnel perform related work. Under supervision, performs preventive dental care work of ordinary difficulty and responsibility as follows:
Examples of Typical Tasks: 1. Examines, charts, and cleans teeth, removing soft and hard deposits. 2. Takes and develops dental x-rays. 3. Prepares local anesthesia and assists in oral surgery and extraction. 4. Administers preventive treatments, such as topical fluorides and pit and fissure sealants, when necessary. 5. Gives instruction on oral hygiene and conducts educational programs. 6. Sterilizes instruments and maintains the hygienic condition of equipment and the health care setting. 7. May mix amalgams, cements, silicates and other materials. 8. Requisitions supplies, keeps records and performs related work, as required.
Minimum Qualifications 1. Candidates must possess a current registration of a New York State Dental Hygienist License.
