The Opportunity Maintenance Technician (Electrical Focus)

RS is seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Technician with a strong electrical background to support the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of critical equipment across our manufacturing facility. This role emphasizes electrical systems, controls, and automation, while also supporting mechanical maintenance as needed.

You will play a key role in ensuring equipment reliability, electrical system performance, and minimized downtime through advanced troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and continuous improvement efforts. This position begins with day shift training before transitioning to and may move into a continental shift schedule.

What You Will Do Electrical & Controls Focus

  • Perform advanced electrical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair on manufacturing and facility equipment
  • Diagnose and repair electrical systems, control panels, PLCs, VFDs, motors, and instrumentation
  • Troubleshoot electrical faults, power distribution issues, and control system failures to maintain safe, reliable production
  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on electrical and automation systems
  • Interpret and work from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation
  • Support PLC troubleshooting (I/O, hardware diagnostics Siemens preferred)
  • Maintain and repair motors, drives, sensors, relays, breakers, and control circuits
  • Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and electrical system improvements
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) on electrical failures and implement corrective actions
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering, and Maintenance teams to improve equipment uptime and system reliability
  • Complete CMMS work orders and maintenance documentation accurately
  • Follow all electrical safety standards, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and NFPA/OSHA compliance
  • Support mechanical maintenance activities as needed (pumps, valves, etc.)
  • Participate in continuous improvement and reliability initiatives

What You Bring

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in electrical or industrial maintenance preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in industrial maintenance with strong electrical troubleshooting experience
  • Proven ability to diagnose and repair electrical systems, controls, and automation equipment independently
  • Hands-on experience with PLCs, VFDs, motor controls, and electrical distribution systems
  • Basic PLC troubleshooting skills (hardware, I/O; Siemens preferred)
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs and electrical reliability practices
  • Working knowledge of mechanical systems (pumps, drives, piping) is a plus
  • Proficiency with electrical testing equipment (multimeters, meggers, etc.)
  • Overhead crane certification (or ability to obtain)
  • Strong commitment to electrical safety, quality workmanship, and teamwork
  • Willingness to train on days before transitioning to evening/night shift schedule
