About the Role: The Machinist Trainee position is designed to provide individuals with foundational skills and knowledge in the steel manufacturing industry. Trainees will learn to operate various machining tools and equipment, gaining hands-on experience that is essential for their professional development. Machinists are responsible for the safe transport, loading, and unloading of steel forgings. They are tasked with the safe operation, cleaning, and minor maintenance of various machine tools. Machinists must follow instructions from supervision and work order packets and record work activities as needed. As trainees progress, they will contribute to the production of high-quality components that meet industry standards. Ultimately, this role serves as a stepping stone for a rewarding career in manufacturing, where precision and craftsmanship are paramount. A Machinist Trainee must learn two skills within the first ninety days worked which include: crane operation, mill, lathe, VTL, HBM, layout/center, saw, CNC. Minimum Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required
Good corrected vision and hearing ability
Competent in English; written and oral
Must be able to walk, climb, kneel, reach, and lift a minimum of 50 lbs
Must be able to read a tape measure
Preferred Qualifications:
Heavy industry or manufacturing experience preferred
Steel Manufacturing Industry a plus
Responsibilities:
Assist in the setup and operation of machining equipment under the guidance of experienced machinists.
Perform minor machine tool maintenance and cleaning of machines to ensure optimal performance and safety.
Follow Safety Policies and Procedures
Perform safe material movement activities
Operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner
Follow instruction and record work activities
