Body Shop Manager - Kearny Mesa Chevrolet

Exempt Job Summary: The Body Shop Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the collision repair facility, ensuring high-quality service and customer satisfaction. This role involves managing staff, optimizing workflow, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise and train body shop technicians and support staff, fostering a positive work environment.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide coaching to enhance team skills and productivity.
  • Manage day-to-day operations, ensuring efficient workflow and timely completion of repair jobs.
  • Collaborate closely and efficiently with insurance partners.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment and tools, ensuring they are in safe and working condition.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for customers, addressing inquiries, concerns, and feedback.
  • Ensure exceptional customer service by managing expectations and maintaining clear communication throughout the repair process.
  • Implement and enforce quality control standards to ensure repairs meet industry and company specifications.
  • Conduct final inspections on completed jobs to ensure quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop and manage the body shop budget, monitoring expenses and revenue.
  • Prepare estimates and manage billing processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance with insurance requirements.
  • Test drive and relocate vehicles within the shop to ensure proper functionality after repairs and to facilitate workflow and organization throughout the facility.
  • Ensure the shop complies with all safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and training sessions to promote a safe working environment.
  • Analyze performance metrics to identify areas for improvement in efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and best practices to enhance shop operations.
  • Maintain satisfactory attendance.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • Hires and trains department staff.
    • Oversees the daily workflow and schedules of body shop employees.
    • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive.
    • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

    • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the automotive repair industry, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
    • Proven experience in automotive body repair and management, ideally in a similar role.
    • Strong understanding of auto body repair processes and techniques.
    • Willingness to stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in auto repair.
    • Valid driver's license and safe driving record; required to have California driver's license within 30 days following date of hire.
    • At least one year of verifiable driving experience.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
    • Ability to perform all essential functions of the job description.

Preferred Qualifications:

    • Associate's or bachelor's degree in automotive technology or business management.
    • Experience with collision repair processes and techniques.
    • I-CAR certification or equivalent training in automotive repair.ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification in body repair.
    • Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Mitchell, CCC One) and shop management systems.
    • Strong understanding of automotive technologies and repair methods.
    • Proven ability to lead and motivate a diverse team.
    • Experience in performance management and staff development.
    • Strong understanding of budgeting, cost control, and profitability analysis.
    • Experience in managing shop operations and driving revenue growth.
    • Excellent communication skills with a focus on customer satisfaction.
    • Experience in building relationships with clients, insurance adjusters, and suppliers.
    • Ability to assess complex repair situations and make informed decisions.
    • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
    • Familiarity with local, state, and federal regulations related to automotive repairs and safety standards.

Physical Demands:

    • Frequently stands, walks, sits; uses hands; frequently reaches with hands and arms; frequently talks and hears.
    • Occasionally climbs or balances; occasionally stoops, kneels, crouches, squats or crawls; occasionally lifts up to 50 pounds.
    • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Environment/Noise:

    • Work in well-ventilated and well-lit repair shop.
    • Occasionally work outside.
    • Typically sits at a desk or workstation.
    • Frequent use of protective gear such as goggles and earplugs.
    • Exposure to hazardous conditions and equipment may result in minor injuries.
    • Noise level is moderate to loud.
