Description

An exciting opportunity awaits for a dedicated special education professional to make a genuine impact in the 25/26 school year. Support an Intensive Resource Room focused on elementary-aged students experiencing a range of moderate to severe disabilities. This contract-to-hire position offers the chance to work closely with a small class of six students, grades 1st-6th, whose needs span from Down syndrome to non-verbal autism. Many utilize AAC devices for communication and benefit from consistent, individualized attention throughout their day. Collaborate with a team that includes paraprofessionals assisting with routines and self-care, as well as service providers such as Occupational Therapists, Speech-Language Pathologists, and Social Workers who both push in and pull out to provide related services. This collaborative environment allows you to focus on nurturing student growth and advocating for inclusive education strategies. Key Qualifications and Skills:

  • Valid Special Education Teacher certification (or eligibility to obtain)
  • Experience working in moderate/severe special education settings highly preferred
  • Familiarity with AAC devices, adaptive curriculum, and differentiated instruction
  • Ability to create and implement IEPs tailored to individual needs
  • Strong communication skills for collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and families
  • Patience, empathy, and a commitment to supporting students with significant challenges
Core Responsibilities:
  • Deliver individualized and small group instruction for students in grades 1st-6th
  • Develop, monitor, and update IEPs according to each student's progress
  • Integrate specialized supports, assistive technology, and behavior strategies
  • Guide and support paraprofessional staff within the classroom
  • Engage in regular communication with service providers and caregivers
