Description The Center for Discovery is located in Harris, New York, which is in the Catskill Mountain Region located 90 minutes northwest of New York City. At The Center for Discovery, people with disabilities work hard to find a way forward as they shape lives of meaning.The supports we offer are grounded in the land and our community of care and education, which for many years has integrated food and farming, science and research, and health and wellness. We offer residential, medical and special education programs to over 1,200 children, adults and families annually. We are a vibrantly successful program that encourages people with intellectual and physical challenges to defy expectations, while simultaneously evolving new models for living. The Psychology Department at the Center for Discovery is comprised of New York State Licensed Psychologists; Licensed and Board Certified Behavior Analysts; Certified Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analysts; Registered Behavior Technicians; and School Psychologists. We are committed to providing a compassionate approach to addressing maladaptive behaviors that impact an individual's quality of life. Common challenging behaviors treated include aggression, self-injury, pica, property destruction and elopement. We serve individuals with profound autism and other severe and complex disabilities. Given this level of complexity, we utilize a team approach to provide comprehensive care. In most cases, behavior teams include a Behavior Analyst, Behavior Specialist, and Registered Behavior Technician(s) who share a caseload. In addition, behavior teams work in the context of a larger multidisciplinary team comprised of physicians, nurses, teachers, speech/occupational/physical therapists, nutritionists, and residential staff. In anticipation of expansion, including the addition of an 18-bed specialty hospital projected to open in September 2024, we are seeking a Clinical Psychologist or School Psychologist (Doctoral-Level) to perform the following duties:
Develop and implement behavior intervention plans including skill acquisition programs;
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop comprehensive treatment and discharge plans;
Provide crisis support;
Develop trainings for staff and families;
Assist with research initiatives;
Serve on the admissions committee.
Requirements Must have:
Doctorate degree in Clinical or School Psychology;
A license to practice psychology in New York State or eligibility for licensure;
BCBA or BCBA-D preferred;
Well-qualified post-doctoral candidates may be considered with a commitment to remain at the Center once license is obtained;
At least 4 years of experience working with children with autism and other developmental disabilities;
Excellent written and oral communication skills;
Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary team and adapt easily to change;
Strong initiative and openness to new ideas.
