Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for an Operating Room position at a Level I trauma, Magnet-designated acute care hospital requiring at least 2.5 years of OR experience and an active IL RN license.

Details

  • Work in the Operating Room department of a 562-bed acute care hospital
  • 23 operating rooms in the unit
  • Alternating shift schedule of Day (10:45-21:15) and Night (12:45-23:15), 4x10 hour shifts
  • Required to work 1 weekend per month
  • On-call requirement of approximately 1 shift per week
  • Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities
  • Rarely floats outside of skill set
  • Cerner charting system used, experience preferred
  • Works with all surgical service lines except cardiovascular (CV)

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license in hand or in the application process required
  • Minimum 2.5 years of Operating Room experience required
  • BLS certification required; CNOR and CST certifications preferred
  • Level I trauma center experience required
  • General OR and Trauma surgical experience required
  • Bariatric case experience with laparoscopic assisted cases required
  • General Surgery case experience required, including Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection, Hernia repair, Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Mastectomy, Thyroidectomy, and Whipple procedures
  • Neurology case experience required, including Cervical fusion, Craniotomy, Laminectomy/discectomy, and Lumbar fusion
  • Orthopedic case experience required, including Arthroscopy, Carpal Tunnel release, and Open/Closed reduction of fractures
  • Plastic Surgery experience with Free Flap Microvascular procedures required
  • Transplant/organ donation experience required
  • Urology case experience required, including Cystoscopy, Nephrectomy, and Prostatectomy
  • Trauma case experience required, including Amputations, Gunshot/stab wounds, and MVA with multiple injuries
  • Emergency management skills required, including Code response, Fire safety, Latex Allergy, and Malignant Hyperthermia protocols
  • Experience with Electrosurgical units, Fiber optic light sources/cords, and Hana tables required
  • Professional knowledge required in blood product administration, infection control, radiation safety, specimen handling/labeling, Universal Protocol (Time Out) procedure, and urinary bladder catheterization
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide perioperative nursing care across multiple surgical specialties in a Level I trauma, Magnet-designated hospital
  • Scrubs are provided for this role
  • First-time travelers are not accepted for this position
  • Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Previous permanent or PRN employees of the hospital system must be separated for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
  • Travel pairs are not accepted
  • All requested time off must be reviewed and approved by the facility manager
  • Up to 5 non-holiday RTO days may be auto-approved, with additional days requiring facility approval
  • Candidates must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • Housing in the area can be difficult to find, so early planning is recommended
  • First day of assignment is a virtual, at-home orientation requiring completion of assigned training modules
