Job Summary:
Promotes student engagement, independence, and interdependence in learnng and facilitates a positive learning community.
Build relationships with students and provide emotional support and crisis intervention when necessary.
Develop daily and alternate lesson plans.
Documents academic, behavioral, and social/emotional areas of student performance through data collection.
Participates in the development and imlementation of FBAs and BIPs.
Drafts and implements IEP goals and objectives.
Assesses student learnng, providing feedback to students, and adjusting instruction.
Plans assessment strategies to document specific evidence of student learning.
Serves as a case manager and attend PPT meetings, IEP reviews, parent/teacher conferences, and open houses.
Collaborates with colleagues and other co-workers daily to support a productive, creative, and positive work environment.
Co-teachers, consults, and collaborates with Specials Subjects Teachers (Art, Music, PE) and Related Services personnel to provide expertise in understanding student needs, IEPs, BIPs, modifications, and accommodations.
Maximize instructional time by effectively managing routines and transitions.
Reports on student progress quarterly (report cards).
Maintains a gradebook using a schoolwide system and updates weekly with grades.
Writes reports on student progress several days before all PPTs.
Participates in school-wide events.
Meets the professional Common Core of Teaching for the State of Connecticut and the CT Code of Professional Responsibility for Teachers.
Is responsible for teaching and non-teaching duties as assigned by Administration.
Qualifications:
CT State Certification in Special Education (065, 165, 265)
Receive initial certification within 60 days of hire and re-certification as appropriate for PMT Training.
Bachelor's Degree in Special Education. Master's Degree is preferred.
Strong behavior management skills and experience are required.
Knowledge or experience working with children with diverse educational, social, and emotional needs is a plus.
Must have a positive attitude, good communication skills, demonstrate good judgment, and the ability to establish effective rapport with students, families, and all colleagues.
Ability to work with students and colleagues from diverse ethnic, economic, educational, and religious backgrounds is a requisite, as is a commitment to exceeding standards of professional and ethical practices and responsibilities.
