Junior Trusts & Estates Associate Attorney

Direct Counsel is representing an Am Law 50 global law firm seeking a Junior Trusts & Estates Associate Attorney to join its Tax, Trusts & Estates, and Employee Benefits Practice Group in either the San Francisco or San Diego (Del Mar) office.

This is an excellent opportunity for a junior attorney to join a highly regarded Private Wealth Services team that advises ultra-high-net-worth individuals, families, and family offices on sophisticated domestic and international wealth planning, tax strategies, and estate matters. The team provides counsel on U.S. investments and acquisitions, cross-border tax structuring, hedge fund and equity co-investments, family office establishment, and governance, as well as immigration and estate planning for global families.

Responsibilities

  • Draft estate planning documents, including wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and advance directives.
  • Assist with estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax matters.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare memoranda addressing complex estate, tax, and trust issues.
  • Collaborate with senior attorneys on advanced estate and tax planning strategies.
  • Manage and maintain client files efficiently and ensure timely communication.

Qualifications

  • 2–4 years of law firm experience, ideally in estate planning, tax, or related transactional practice.

  • Strong knowledge of estate and tax planning and trust and estate administration for high-net-worth clients.

  • Excellent drafting, analytical, and research skills with strong attention to detail.

  • Highly organized, proactive, and capable of managing multiple matters simultaneously.

  • Superior academic credentials from an accredited law school.

  • LL.M. in Taxation preferred but not required.

  • Must be admitted to the California Bar and in good standing.

Compensation

  • Annual salary range: $225,000 – $260,000

  • Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits package commensurate with experience.
