The Junior Estimator collaborates with the estimating staff to support the company's annual booking goal and maximize profitability. The Junior Estimator will assist in preparing estimates for assigned projects of varying size and complexity for one or more disciplines, including reviewing and analyzing applicable project plans and specifications. The Junior Estimator will be part of a team environment and may work with other team members based on bid needs. The Junior Estimator may participate in business development, industry events, and building customer relations. Maintains Faulconer's Core Values at all times. Primary Job Responsibilities
Prepare material takeoffs by accurately calculating and quantifying materials needed to deliver the proposed scope of work.
Engage with and solicit proposals from vendors and subcontractors. Providing all necessary project information (plans, specifications, contracts, etc.) and responding to any questions or requests for information from vendors and subcontractors.
Assist in preparing estimates by inputting quantity and cost information to accurately quantify and price the labor, equipment, materials, and subcontractors needed to perform the work.
Assist in reviewing proposal specifications, drawings, geotechnical information, and other information as necessary to determine the scope of work and contents of the estimate.
Assist in following up on submitted proposals and be prepared to participate in weekly estimating meetings.
Support Operations Staff by participating in project Hand-Off, Kick-Off, and Review meetings.
Develop and maintain knowledge of relevant software, i.e., takeoff, estimate/bid creation, scheduling, subcontractor solicitation, office management, and customer relationship management.
When feasible, visit current project sites to obtain knowledge of productions and means and methods of construction activities utilized by field personnel.
Perform site visits of projects we are bidding.
Engage in Business Development activities and attend relevant industry events.
Attend external training events as required.
Provide estimating and takeoff support for change orders.
Position Expectations Travel to job sites, both current and ones we are bidding on. Work in a collaborative team environment. Be willing to ask questions to gain an understanding of the estimating process. Position Requirements Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or related field experience preferred.
Willingness to learn estimating processes, skills, and software.
Willingness to learn to read and understand construction drawings, geotechnical reports, and specifications.
Willingness and ability to occasionally work long hours to finalize proposals and bids.
Ability to travel to Pre-bid meetings/site visits.
Attendance at company events in NC and VA as needed.
Preferred proficiency with Excel, Word, and PDF applications.
Work Authorization / Security Clearance:
Employee must be eligible to work in the United States.
Drug screens are required after an offer is accepted, and continued employment is based on the initial drug screen and any future/random drug screens administered.
A background check will be required.
A confidentiality agreement may be required.
Driving records may be required.
Further clearance may be required by clients (i.e. government or military site access).
