Description
Deputy Administrator
As Deputy Administrator (DA), the incumbent leads the Federal Grain Inspection Service (FGIS) within the AMS, delivering official inspection and weighing services to customers nationwide through a network of Federal, State and private entities.
Participates fully with the Administrator and the Associate Administrator in developing, recommending, and directing FGIS programs, policies, and procedures.
Oversees geographically dispersed employees, including field operations, quality assurance, compliance, technology and science, standardization, and international activities, managing a combination of user fee and appropriated funds.
Provides farmers, handlers, processors, exporters, and international buyers with sampling, inspection, process verification, third party oversight, weighing and stowage examination services.
Formulates and administers strategic plans and policies that manage the national grain inspection system and helps move our Nation's harvest into the marketplace.
Represents the Program and the Department, providing expert counsel across grain industry stakeholders, including national trade groups, members of Congress, interagency and foreign partners.
Collaborates routinely on Labor-Management Relations issues including in all areas the collective bargaining agreement.
Leads and directs organizational changes to ensure the integrity, customer responsiveness, cost-effectiveness, and efficiency of FGIS Programs.
