Description
Assistant Coach
Reports To: Principal and Director of Athletics
Job Goal
To develop the young people entrusted to his/her care to the maximum of their potential, both physically and mentally. To teach competition, discipline, and sportsmanship while developing a program that will be a source of pride for the participants, their parents, coaches, officials, and the community.
Supervisory Responsibility
Assistant Coaches and students of particular program
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Qualifications
Teaching knowledge of the sport directing. Experience in physical education, coaching, first-aid, CPR, and sports medicine. High moral values. Proven leadership capabilities. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
Education and Experience
Class A Certification in a teaching field preferred
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with parents/community or employees of the district.
Other Skills
Exhibit qualities of leadership and organizational ability and reflect a spirit of cooperation in working with staff and school administration. Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will continually work inside or outside depending on the sporting event. Occasionally the employee must be able to meet deadlines with severe time constraints and interact with public and other workers. The employee is frequently required to work irregular and extended work hours while performing the duties of this job. The employee has direct responsibility for the safety, well-being and work output of others. The noise level is usually moderate.
Professional Conduct
Employee acknowledges that he/she is required to maintain a high standard of professional conduct in compliance with the Mississippi Code of Ethics. Breach of said professional conduct includes but is not limited to: neglect of duty, dishonesty, engagement in acts that are contrary to VWSD policy, unlawful activities, or any other conduct which is seriously prejudicial to the school district.
