This role is ideal for developers with strong expertise in materials, shaders, procedural content generation, and performance optimization. You'll play a key role in ensuring our game not only looks stunning but also runs efficiently across platforms. Working closely with art, design, and engineering, you'll help create optimized, scalable, and visually compelling experiences for players.ResponsibilitiesDrive performance analysis and optimization across the game project, focusing on rendering efficiency and frame stabilityCollaborate with artists to bring stylized or realistic visual targets to life while ensuring technical feasibilityDesign and maintain tools and workflows to streamline the creation of materials, shaders, and procedural contentDevelop, implement, and optimize shaders and material systems to achieve high-quality visuals while maintaining performance budgetsOptimize procedural content generation (PCG) systems for scalability and runtime efficiencyProfile GPU and CPU performance using industry-standard tools and resolve bottlenecks in rendering and graphics workflowsEnsure cross-platform graphical fidelity and optimization, with an eye toward scalability for diverse hardware configurationsCollaborate with other engineers on rendering architecture and contribute to the long-term graphics roadmapRequirements6+ years of professional game industry programming experience, with a focus on graphics, rendering, or engine-level developmentAdvanced experience with Unreal Engine 4 or 5, including the material editor, shader development, and rendering pipelineStrong C/C++ programming skills with deep knowledge of GPU/CPU performance optimization, memory management, and multithreadingProven ability to profile and optimize complex rendering systems for real-time applicationsExperience with shader languages (HLSL/GLSL) and real-time graphics APIs (DirectX, Vulkan, or Metal)Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, with familiarity in GPU and CPU performance profiling toolsAbility to clearly communicate technical concepts to cross-disciplinary teamsA commitment to a safe, respectful, and inclusive work environmentNice to HaveExperience with procedural content generation (PCG) workflows and optimizationFamiliarity with advanced rendering techniques such as ray tracing, global illumination, or virtual texturingKnowledge of compute shaders and GPU-driven pipelinesExperience optimizing large-scale open-world environments or complex rendering scenariosFamiliarity with art workflows and cross-discipline collaboration (technical art, environment art)Background in working with distributed, fully remote teamsWhat Skymap Games doesSkymap Games is a game development studio based in Manchester, NH.
