How You Will Make an ImpactThe Controls Engineer is responsible for developing, maintaining, and auditing the controls and automation systems used in Reading Truck Group's operations. The Controls Engineer advances the controls and automation systems used in operations at Reading Truck Group by developing project scopes, designs, specifications, evaluation of alternatives, cost estimates, and implementing the designs that result in safer, more productive, more cost effective, improved quality processes and operations.The Nuts and BoltsImprove the existing controls and automation systems and processesEnsure proper and safe operation of controls and automation systems, and communicate issues effectively to leadershipDevelop, design, specify, test and maintain records for controls and automation systems to optimize manufacturing process, including safety, quality and efficiencyAdvance the manufacturing and assembly processes and Reading's manufacturing competitiveness through the implementation of robotics and automation at Reading Truck Group locationsProject manage controls and automation projectsCollaborate with IT group to design systems that will reduce labor compliment, improve productivity, improve quality, and reduce costsPromote company safety policies and develop technical solutions to improve operational safetyWork with maintenance team, and outside contractors to implement new controls and automation processes, improve performance, and minimize equipment downtimeActively support in the daily activities of production teamsSupport and participate in lean initiatives, and develop the assembly and manufacturing processes to provide customers with products that meet or exceed customer requirements and drive continuous safety, quality and productivity improvementsKeep the leadership regularly updates of the key metrics and progress of each projectPerform other duties as required or directed by the managementPosition Qualifications & Requirements:EducationBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent work experience requiredExperienceMinimum of seven (7) years of experience overall in the following areasProven experience in controls and automation specification, design, installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting is requiredExperience programming PLC logic, HMI, and SCADA systems is requiredRobotics programming experience is preferredFive (5) years of experience in automotive or related industry is preferredExperience with Lean Manufacturing is preferredSkills and AbilitiesProficient with PLC, HMI, SCADA, Robotics, and industrial controls systems design, troubleshooting, and maintenance abilitiesAbility to program robotics (Fanuc is preferred)Understanding of Ethernet-based networking and industrial network protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus)Understanding of electrical circuits, electrical schematics and the ability to create, modify, review and document them using AutoCADFamiliar with various electromechanical mechanisms (motors, actuators, sensors, controllers)Ability to systematically troubleshoot problems, identify issues and propose solutions to resolve themProficiency in Microsoft Office programs is requiredExcellent organizational and documentation skillsEffective Project Management skills, oral and written communication; excellent interpersonal skillsAbility to engage peers, and other associates to solve problems and develop improved methodsWorking knowledge of fabrication, assembly, manufacturing, and coating processesAbility to collaborate with a multiple departments and multi-disciplinary teamsAbility to oversee, guide, and train engineering technicians, maintenance personnel, and operations personnelSome of Our Total RewardsComprehensive benefits package including Medical, Dental, Vision and Life401(k) Savings Plan with Company MatchTool Purchase ProgramTuition ReimbursementPaid Time Off and 10 Observed (Paid) HolidaysGenerous Footwear, Eyewear, and Safety Equipment Discount ProgramPaid Training and Development ProgramsJ.B.
