Work involves managing and directing engineering projects and activities; and reviewing and issuing permits and authorizations. Works under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.Essential FunctionsConduct detailed inspections of projects during construction to ensure compliance with the Texas Engineering Practices Act; ensure project quality assurance; and review and certify as‑built construction drawings.Provide consultant and liaison services to internal and external organizations regarding new design concepts, solutions to problems, and changes to policies and laws; and provide technical assistance regarding installed equipment selection, acceptance, operation, and maintenance.Oversee the preparation of electrical design criteria documentation and commissioning specifications for facilities and facility subsystems; and plan, develop, conduct, and coordinate electrical engineering activities.Conduct and coordinate field visits and inspections; monitor contractor performance; assist in conducting operation evaluations; and provide technical assistance regarding the selection of building systems and components.Prepare electrical construction plans, drawings, estimates, and specifications; affix engineering seals to drawings and specifications in compliance with codes and standards; perform electrical engineering calculations and prepare documentation to determine adequacy of design.Perform a variety of marginal duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.Minimum QualificationsBachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university. Each year of experience beyond the required six years may be substituted for thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university on a year‑for‑year basis.Six years full‑time, wage‑earning electrical engineering experience in facilities engineering work to include design, construction, or operation and maintenance work. A Master's degree may be substituted for one year of the required experience.Current, valid license as a professional electrical engineer in the State of Texas. If previously licensed as a professional engineer in any state, must obtain Texas licensure within six months of employment. Must maintain a valid license for continued employment. Selected applicants without the required license must sign a Credential Contingency Agreement that remains effective only until the initially established expiration date. Failure to comply will result in separation from employment.Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure as defined by state law.Knowledge and SkillsKnowledge of facility management techniques and practices.Knowledge of laws, regulations, rules, statutes, and codes pertaining to electrical design and construction of government facilities.Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures, rules, and regulations.Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the public.Skill in reading and interpreting working plans, drawings, and specifications.Skill in reviewing and applying policies, procedures, rules, regulations, schedules, guidelines, and contract requirements.Skill to manage multiple projects and activities.Skill in using computer software relevant to design and project management.Additional Requirements (With or Without Reasonable Accommodation)Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend repeatedly, climb stairs and ladders, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read, speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry under 15 lbs, perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle, and operate motor equipment.Work conditions include working inside, around machines with moving parts, radiant and electrical energy, closely with others or alone, protracted or irregular hours, and traveling by car, van, bus, and airplane.Equipment used includes computer and related equipment, calculator, copier, fax machine, telephone, dolly, and automobile.Application InstructionsApplications submitted via handwritten forms, email, mail, or fax will not be accepted.
