OverviewWe are seeking a full-time EMC Engineer - Aviation in our Olathe, KS location. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a small certification test or working as part of a team to complete Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Certifications for a more complex integrated product/system under supervision of management or mentor. The Aviation team is responsible for demonstrating compliance with High Intensity Radiated Fields (HIRF) and Lightning for TSO (Technical Standard Order) to support both TC (Type Certificate) and STC (Supplemental Type Certificate) requirements of complex avionics systems.Essential FunctionsLead a small certification test or work as part of a team to develop/write test plans that will result in test data that will be used to show EMC compliance to respective requirementsDemonstrate solid understanding of the Garmin products/systems including I/O, system architecture and equipment functionalityDevelop/write test reports that correctly/completely captures test results and includes information required to ensure the report demonstrates compliance with EMC requirementsProvide guidance to technicians as required and serve as a mentor to less experienced EMC Engineers (EMC Engineer 1)Apply a sense of urgency, commitment and focus on the right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion and participate in recruiting activities as requiredDemonstrate an understanding of HIRF and Lightning requirements in performing set up and running HIRF and Lightning testingPerform testing in accordance with DO160 and Garmin ProceduresPerform hardware and software change analysis under supervision of more experienced EMC EngineersDevelop FHA (Functional Hazard Assessments) and correlate failure modes from FHA's to individual equipmentDemonstrate familiarity with regulatory requirements for HIRF and Lightning and when to apply them, as well as advisory materials, SAE documents, the aircraft certification and TSO processes and requirements necessary to achieve STC and TC for OEM'sDemonstrate understanding of aircraft wiring types, shields, connectors, equipment bonding methods, and aircraft drawing systems in collaboration with avionics installation teamBasic QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering AND a minimum of 1 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experienceExcellent academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule)Demonstrates basic knowledge and/or understanding of RF technology and electrical circuitsDemonstrates proficiency using Microsoft Word & ExcelDemonstrated skills and/or training in project managementMust be detail/team oriented, positive, have the ability to work proactively and effectively with minimal supervision, able to prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced and challenging environmentDemonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skillsDesired QualificationsOutstanding academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)Knowledge and/or experience with DO 160 Section 20 (Radio Frequency Susceptibility (Radiated and Conducted), Section 22 (Lightning Induced Transient Susceptibility), and Section 23 (Lightning Direct Affect)Knowledge and/or experience of the following: EASA HIRF and lightning requirements, SAE ARP5412, 5413 and 5583Pilot LicenseGarmin International is an equal opportunity employer.
