Job TitleEnvironmental Specialist (Level I and Level II)Pay RatesLevelI:$6,493.68 per monthLevelII:$6,989.58–$8,496.42 per monthJob SummaryEnvironmental Specialists apply scientific theory and methods to identify, research, and resolve environmental issues in regulatory compliance, public health, and pollution prevention. Candidates may serve in the Environmental Compliance or Environmental Health divisions, and may advance from LevelI to LevelII upon meeting qualifications and demonstrating performance.Key ResponsibilitiesConduct environmental inspections, sampling, and monitoring.Analyze data, prepare concise, accurate reports, narratives, and recommendations.Research and interpret environmental laws, regulations, and policies.Communicate findings verbally and in writing to the public, businesses, and government agencies.Cooperate with colleagues, build constructive relationships, and address concerns tactfully.Prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently within established guidelines.Present studies and reports to governmental boards and civic organizations.Minimum QualificationsEnvironmental Specialist (LevelI)Graduation from an accredited college or university with a major in health science, public health, natural science, physical science, environmental science, or a related field.Or written proof of acceptance of education required by State of California Environmental Health Services, with certification obtained within the required period.Environmental Specialist (LevelII)Graduation from an accredited college or university with the same major as LevelI.One year of professional experience in environmental regulation, analysis, or research equivalent to LevelI duties.Or possession of valid certification as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) by the State of California.Or possession of valid certification as a Registered Dairy Inspector by the State of California.Or possession of a Master's degree in a related field.Applicants for Environmental Health positions must provide documentation of relevant certification or acceptance letter.Physical RequirementsAbility to stoop, kneel, climb fences, stairs, ladders, walk rough terrain, work underground, and use protective clothing.Normal hearing and verbal communication.Visual discrimination of colors and spatial orientation in dim light.Calibration and use of technical monitoring instruments and reading gauges and meters.Work Schedule & ConditionsIncumbents may work in adverse weather, emergencies, and outside normal hours as required.Professional Certification RequirementsMaintenance of required certification/registration is mandatory; failure to maintain may lead to suspension or termination.Additional RequirementsAll positions require possession or ability to obtain a valid California Driver's License, ClassC or higher, before appointment.Equal Opportunity StatementWe are a proud equal opportunity employer.
