DescriptionThe Institute for Genomic Health (IGH) and Division for Genomic Medicine (DGM) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai (ISMMS) has an opening for a motivated and dedicated Genetic Counselor. The Genetic Counselor will provide support for IGH/DGM research and clinical programs.IGH is a cutting‑edge institute enabling scientists and clinicians to rapidly bring discovery to the front line of clinical care. We are seeking a highly qualified and licensed Genetic Counselor to provide genetic counseling services for the wide variety of genomic conditions seen in the DGM Genomic Health Clinic and participate in translational research activities at IGH. The Genetic Counselor will report directly to the DGM Chief and to the IGH Director.The Genetic Counselor will be involved in all aspects of translational research and clinical work within IGH/DGM. Responsibilities include eliciting and recording detailed family and medical histories, interpreting genetic variants, assessing genetic disease risk, returning results to patients and physicians, and serving as the primary contact for patients, research participants, referring physicians, and other providers. The role requires comfort discussing complex genetic and health information with diverse populations and contributing to the implementation of cutting‑edge genomic medicine.ResponsibilitiesConsenting patients and research participantsReviewing and summarizing medical recordsCoordinating study visits and implementing study proceduresEnsuring adherence to written protocols and regulatory requirementsCoordinating clinical genetic testingProviding post‑test counseling, education, and support for patients and familiesDeveloping written educational materials for patients and providersAssisting with patient and provider outreach activitiesParticipating in administrative meetings of the Institute for Genomic HealthAssisting with the development and conduct of clinical research protocolsMaintaining study files and databasesParticipating in qualitative and health systems researchAssisting with submissions to the Institutional Review Board and other regulatory bodiesQualifications2 years of genetic counseling experienceMaster of Science in Human Genetics or Genetic Counseling from an ABGC‑accredited programAmerican Board of Genetic Counseling certification within 3 years of graduationPreferred: Bi‑lingual SpanishCompensationThe Mount Sinai Health System provides a salary range of $85,000 to $131,538 annually. Actual salaries depend on experience and other factors.
