Minimum Qualifications Obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within two (2) years of hire.Maintain current unencumbered licensure with the WV Board of Registered Professional Nurses or an appropriate state board, or hold current multi‑state licensure through the enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact (eNLC).Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.Successfully complete a state criminal background check and any required federal checks for regulated areas based on the physical work location.Experience Provide at least two (2) years of experience in the area of practice.CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Develop and implement unit‑specific staff educational activities within the scope of nursing practice.Collaborate with department leadership and support staff to identify educational needs using indicators such as regulatory agencies, new policies, technology, patient case studies, and quality assurance monitors.Aid department leadership in assessing new employee learning needs and developing orientation and education plans to ensure consistency in implementation, validation, and documentation.Contribute input and assist managers or directors in the annual review of unit scope of service and performance improvement initiatives.Facilitate the unit's education plan for nursing orientation, staff development, continuing education, competency validation, patient education, and academic experiences.Define and coordinate orientation needs for all new unit employees, providing individualized orientation, preceptor assignment, evaluation of progress, and constructive feedback.Assist in developing annual competency analysis system requirements and criteria to assure necessary knowledge, skills, and attitudes.Support development of strong leadership behaviors in unit staff, including charge nurse orientation, preceptor development, delegation skills, and effective interpersonal communication.Promote innovation, creativity, and empowerment in patient care delivery based on current nursing literature and research.Initiate or participate in studies and research activities related to staff development and patient health care.Serve as a change agent in implementing evidence‑based practice changes within the health‑care delivery system.Demonstrate regard for the dignity, respect, and safety of all patients, visitors, and hospital personnel.Maintain a caring and courteous attitude and represent the hospital positively.Participate in meeting the Goals and Objectives of the Nursing Service Division and ensure the department contributes to the hospital's overall goals.Model effective communication and conflict resolution skills, reflecting quality service attitudes and consumer satisfaction.Contribute positively to departmental teamwork by assisting staff, offering ideas, and helping to resolve problems.Exhibit the strength to participate in, direct, and maintain quality patient care in a high‑stress environment.Participate in performance‑improvement activities as appropriate.Complete 45‑ and 90‑day performance reviews with manager input.Assist with unit recruitment and retention initiatives.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Electrical hazards associated with patient care equipment.Require strength and/or stamina for lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, positioning patients, standing, walking, carrying patients, materials, and equipment weighing 40+ lbs.WORKING ENVIRONMENT Protracted or irregular hours.Exposure to biohazards and infectious diseases.Work with or near deceased patients and hands in water.Additional Job Description Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40Shift: Varied (United States of America)Exempt/Non‑Exempt: Exempt (United States of America)Company: WVUH West Virginia University HospitalsCost Center: 1506 WVUH FMT Surgical ServicesAddress: 1325 Locust Avenue, Fairmont, West VirginiaWest Virginia University Health System and its subsidiaries (collectively "WVUHS") is an equal opportunity employer and complies with all applicable federal, state, and local fair employment practices laws.
