Reports to the Director of Department to which assigned.Duties and Responsibilities Nursing ProcessPerforms data collection in an ongoing and systematic manner focusing on physiologic, psychological, and cognitive status.**Provides care to patients under the direction or supervision of the registered professional nurse using the plan of care.**Recognizes change in patient status and communicates significant information promptly in an organized, logical and concise manner to a RN.**Implements care in a knowledgeable, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner based on plan of care.**Establishes priorities of patient care.**Technical SkillDemonstrates competency in performing nursing skills as evidenced by positive RN evaluation.**Patient EducationIdentifies patient/significant other learning needs; communicates needs to RN and follows plan(s) for teaching.**DocumentationDocuments in a timely and accurate manner using designated forms**:Nursing and/or medical interventionPatient's response to interventionPatient RightsMaintains confidentiality of patient data.**SafetyFunctions with an awareness of risk management, safety issues and adheres to Arnot Health and Division of Nursing policies and procedures regarding infection control.**Emergency SituationsPerforms efficiently in emergency situations following established protocols; documents events appropriately.**Knowledge BaseDemonstrates knowledge base for designated patient population. Identifies own knowledge deficits and promptly seeks resources/consultation to meet these needs in order to provide safe patient care.**ProfessionalismIs accountable for own actions.**Maintains professional behavior and appearance.**Self DevelopmentDemonstrates self-directed learning and participates in continuing education to meet own professional growth.**Attends all mandatory inservices and is responsible for attending staff meetings or reviewing minutes if unable to attend.**Completes all required competencies in designated time frame.**Legal IssuesDemonstrates awareness of basic legal issues in all aspects of patient care and unit function, and strives to minimize risks.**GoalsParticipates in development and attainment of Unit and Division of Nursing goals.**CommunicationCommunicates in a professional, responsible and constructive manner.**Non-verbal communication - is professional and appropriate.**Working RelationshipsFormulates and uses effective working relationships with all health care team members, patients, and significant others.**StaffingIs prompt in reporting to work and maintaining a good work attendance.**Willingly assists others and is flexible in scheduling to meet the needs of the unit.**Maintains consistent level of productivity.**Medical AdministrationAdministers medication (including intravenous fluids) according to policy, and practices safely as evidenced by no repeated pattern of error(s).**OtherConsistently incorporates hourly rounding into daily practice.**Treats all customers with respect.**Provides age specific appropriate care to patient according to their age groups for the particular unit to which the individual is assigned.**Is responsible for attending all annual mandatory educational programs as required by position.Employee understands and demonstrates the importance of satisfying the needs of the customer/patient by interacting with him/her in a friendly and caring way, being attentive to the customer's needs, both psychologically and physically, and by taking the initiative to maintain communication with the customer in order to provide a secure and pleasant experience with the Arnot Health.It is understood that this job description lists typical duties for the classification and is not to be considered inclusive of all duties which may be assigned.**EducationGraduate of a Practical Nursing Program registered by the New York State Education or by the licensing authority of another state.Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) RequirementsBasic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire date. Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required in critical care units.Physical DemandsAppreciable physical effort required. Moving, lifting and assisting patients whose size and physical abilities can vary greatly. Some lifting, reaching and stooping. Required to be on feet much of the time.Exposure CategoryCategory I.
