Summary Reporting to the Product Design Engineer Senior, the Product Design Engineer designs new products and/or develops product improvements based on Sales/Marketing functional specifications by applying engineering principles and Finite Element Analysis. The incumbent must be able to do machine design analysis for force, stress, and deflection of product components and understand the design of machine components such as rolling element bearings, bushings, cams, helical worm gear drives, and bolted joints/connections.Education Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited college or university.Experience Minimum of 3 years of related work experience.Knowledge, Skills And Abilities Proficiency in SolidWorks 3‑D design software or equivalent and experience performing Finite Element AnalysisAble to apply engineering principles to develop component and simple system designs to meet specificationsAble to develop an accurate project planEffective written and verbal communicationDuties And Responsibilities Work with cross functional teams to develop new products and conduct design reviewsProduct engineering activities: troubleshooting performance issues, root cause analysis, and product design enhancementsProject planning and implementation using MS Project or similar toolsUse SolidWorks 3‑D software to build solid models and create cross-sectional layouts. Able to perform tolerance stack‑up analysis, and apply GD&TDevelop product test plans, identify instrumentation and measurements required, and perform testing to validate new product designsMust understand fundamental manufacturing processes for wrought and cast, gray and ductile iron, steel, stainless steel, bronze, aluminum, and plasticsPerform analysis of design and performance data resulting from R&D testingProvide technical assistance to customers, suppliers, and internal groups: Sales, Marketing, Manufacturing, Field Service, Purchasing, and Quality ControlAssure integrity of issued drawings, Bills of Material, and applicable engineering specifications such as ASTM, AISI, ANSI B31.1, API-675, and ANSI/HI 6.6Obtain approvals as required with respect to certifying and regulatory agencies (UL, CSA, CE, NSF, ATEX)Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions; Works well in group problem solving situations; Applies critical reasoning to making decisionsPerform other duties as assignedTravel Limited travel required.Physical Requirements The work is predominantly sedentary and requires minimal or negligible physical exertion.
