POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Executive or Membership Director, and consistent with the mission of the Y, the Wellness Attendant is responsible for the services and operations offered in the fitness center while providing customer service which promotes member wellness in accordance with the Y policies and procedures in a safe, enjoyable, and positive environment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Actively listen to members to find out their needs and respond promptly and appropriately.
Empower members to develop confidence and self-motivation.
Conduct new member Wellness appointments, including orientation to any fitness equipment needed, as well as any follow up communication, as necessary.
Notice members who may be using unsafe or ineffective techniques and make helpful suggestions.
Ability to demonstrate exercise machines and equipment.
Make yourself available and be able to work with a diverse group of members, regardless of age, gender, race, socioeconomic status, lifestyle, or fitness level.
Provide members with opportunities that will increase their involvement in and sense of ownership of the YMCA.
Consistently monitor member participation and provide feedback.
Share wellness program information with members, using available tools and resources (e.g., handouts, schedules).
Identifies and celebrates the successes of members and program participants.
Ensure cleanliness of the YMCA and regularly check and replenish supply and checks all equipment to ensure proper maintenance - report any equipment in need of repair to a supervisor immediately and place and "out of order" sign on the equipment.
Products or services that are not a part of YMCA programs shall not be promoted or endorsed by any employee to any member or guest
Requirements QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be able to interact with members in a positive manner, enthusiastic, flexible.
Must be able to align with and demonstrate the YMCA four core values on a consistent basis.
Minimum 16 years of age.
Must be able to pass a background check.
Certifications: CPR, First Aid, AED within 30 days of hire.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position for long periods of time, including walking, standing, bending, squatting, and kneeling, lifting, spotting, and demonstrating proper exercise technique.
Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25+ pounds.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
