OverviewThe Sheriff's Office is seeking sworn law enforcement officers to join our team. An employee in this class performs a variety of duties in one of the major divisions of the Sheriff's Office, including uniformed patrol, civil, courts, school resource officer, and transportation.ResponsibilitiesPatrol assigned areas, answer complaints and requests for assistance, investigate crimes and disturbances, interview witnesses, question suspects, gather and preserve evidence, make arrests, and testify in court.Serve various types of civil papers, explain meanings of papers being served, conduct sales of personal and real property at public auction, and ensure proper collection of money.Maintain safety and security for students, staff and administration to ensure a safe learning environment within the school system.Open and close courts, maintain order in the courtroom, assist defendants in completing affidavits, swear defendants in, seat jury members, escort trial juries to the jury room, and assist and escort grand juries.Prepare papers for and assist in the transportation of prisoners, escort prisoners to court, maintain custody, escort defendants to clerk's office to pay fines, prepare necessary papers for defendants ordered into custody, obtain release orders, search prisoners, log property, and record arrests.Cooperate with law enforcement personnel of other governmental agencies in making investigations and arrests.Transport prisoners, mental patients, and intoxicated persons to institutions for confinement or treatment; provide transportation in certain emergencies.Provide protective escort and maintain order at public gatherings.Operate speed detection devices or breath analyzers.Prepare and maintain daily reports concerning criminal activity; prepare related reports as requested.Assist in the preparation of crime‑prevention programs, develop contacts among local community organizations and businesses, and conduct seminars.Perform related work as needed.QualificationsHigh‑school graduation or GED.Completion of NC Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) .Must meet standards set by the North Carolina Sheriff's Standards and Training Division.Must possess a valid driver's license.Successful completion of a rigorous background process, including criminal records check, polygraph exam, psychological/medical screening, pre‑employment physical fitness testing, and standardized reading comprehension test.#J-18808-Ljbffr
