The role requires dedication to inclusion and an interest in fostering a diverse learning environment.Duties and ResponsibilitiesCoordinate all requests for translations and/or interpretations in the districtMaintain a list of and availability of translators and interpretersManage the schedule of interpreters for schools and family eventsManage monthly reports and ensure timely submission of payrollAudit information in documents for accuracyServe as an emergency/substitute interpreter/translator when neededEnsure all district materials are available in multiple languages for online, print, or oral distributionWork with schools and central office departments to ensure that all materials are translated prior to distributionAssess the district's needs to develop a plan for services and anticipated budget impactMonitor state and federal guidelines to ensure complianceManage translation vendor servicesPerform related duties as neededPerform work directed by the Superintendent, Executive Director, or designeeEducation, Training, and Experience RequirementsInterpreter Certificate preferredMultilingual with preference for SpanishMinimum of 3 years' experience providing translation services in an educational setting preferredExperience working with staff from diverse culturesStrong verbal communication skillsThe Superintendent of Schools reserves the right to waive a position qualification or determine that there is an acceptable alternative to that qualification.Must be fluent in one of the following languages: Spanish, Portuguese, Cape Verdean Creole, or Haitian Creole.Terms of EmploymentSalary Range: $25 – $27 per hourHours Per Week: 35 hours per weekPhysical Demands: No requirements such as lifting heavy objects or frequent climbingOvertime Eligible: YesWork Year: 12 monthsReports To: Executive Director of Educational Access and PathwaysPosition Type: Full-timeJob Requirements (EEO Statement)The New Bedford Public Schools do not discriminate on account of age, race, color, sex, gender identity, gender expression, ancestry, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, military status, genetics, or disability that does not prohibit performance of essential job functions in employment for potential employees.
