Overview Job Title: Engineer – CAET Asset OperationsThe primary function of this position is to support the functions of the CAET facility. The role develops operating standards, cyber security baselines and test procedures for new and existing protective relays and other operational technology cyber assets across FirstEnergy's Bulk Electric Transmission System. The position monitors software and firmware patch releases, tests patches for applicability on the FE Transmission System, and develops software and firmware upgrade deployment and testing plans for the cyber assets. It also supports other functions within the Asset Operations organization, including adding and maintaining devices to FE's interactive remote connectivity platform, supporting remote gathering and storage of online transmission apparatus monitoring devices for use within engineering groups and the Asset Health Center application, and supporting transmission capital portfolio development as needed.Responsibilities Work with the Transmission & Substation Services Department to develop new or refined relay test routines and protocolsAssist in developing new or modifying existing maintenance practices to address changing technology, new equipment types, improved test and diagnostic methods, regulatory changes, etc.Work with the FE IT Department to recommend design standard changes to IT/OT interfaces within FE Bulk Electric Transmission System assets where applicableMaintain the integrity and cyber security of FE's transmission OT assets across the FE Bulk Electric Transmission SystemEvaluate manufacturer, vendor and industry-wide announcements for cyber vulnerabilities and feature enhancements of FE's Bulk Transmission OT assetsCoordinate with vendors and the IT department on mitigating identified vulnerabilitiesMonitor industry trends and standards pertaining to cyber security of protective relaying and other transmission substation OT; recommend design standard changes where applicableCollaborate with Work Force Development to develop training material for OT deploymentsRecommend Transmission Reliability Enhancement projectsProvide portfolio support through spare equipment management and replacement recommendationsAssist in performing forensic, apparent cause and root cause analyses, including documenting findings in technical reports and presentationsEducate others on technical subjects and improve technical programs and processesConduct technical research and analyze highly complex dataRecommend and implement technical solutions to complex issuesIndependently anticipate and meet internal/external technical needsDerive business requirements from stakeholders to develop solutions, processes and proceduresDevelop process improvements and efficiencies to improve work productsMaintain a safe workplace in line with regulations and requirementsProvide high level customer service and proactive technical support, analyzing test data, maintenance records and SAP cost dataCollaborate with Cascade and Maintenance Compliance personnel and IT as neededSupport FEU personnel with information and reports related to Substation AssetsIdentify ways to add value within the scope of assignments and deliver resultsProvide guidance, education and encouragement to othersAid during emergencies and storm-related activitiesPerform Business Unit system administration and performance monitoringSupport users of the Crossbow applicationSupport commissioning of new devices at substationsRecommend improvements to strategy, application usage and processesQualifications Engineer II qualifications include:Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering (BSEE, BSCE, BSME) from an ABET-accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives: PE license; Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology from ABET-accredited institution; or a non-ABET engineering degree plus an advanced degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program. Electrical Engineering is preferred.Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certificate is preferred.Minimum of 2 years of Engineering experience required.Engineer III qualifications include:Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering (BSEE, BSCE, BSME) from an ABET-accredited institution is required. Acceptable alternatives as above. Electrical Engineering is preferred.FE certificate is preferred.Minimum of 3 years of Engineering experience required.Engineer IV qualifications include:Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Civil or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution is required.
