Description

PC Support Technician

The Personal Computer Support Technician provides support to distributed PC/networking environment including installation, testing, repair, and troubleshooting for standalone PCs, PCs linked to networks, printers, and other computer peripherals. Support responsibilities include software installation, and configurations. This technician performs technical, operational, and training support to users of personal computers either by telephone, or onsite for PC desktop hardware and software packages.

Job duties require the technician to install and test personal computers, printers, and other peripherals, configure operating system, load shrinkwrap programs and other application software programs. In this position, the incumbent troubleshoots computer problems, performs hardware and software diagnostics, coordinates needed repairs, resolves computer system problems, including coordination between users and components of a local area network, and participates in the evaluation of system configuration and software. Advises, prepares, and briefs staff members who appear before the media for the best possible presentation. Represents the client office before the media at the client's request. Coordinates all aspects of public appearances and press conferences, including notification of appropriate persons and confirmation of date, time, location, security, audience, and subject matter.

Knowledge of, and skill in applying, most of the following: Have project management and organizational skills. IT concepts, principles, methods, and practices. Internet technologies to analyze the internet potential of systems, networks, and data. New and emerging information technologies and/or industry trends.

Have degree in IT such as Information Technology and Information Systems, Computer Science, Information Science, or relevant professional job experience.

Attention to Detail: Installing, configuring, and upgrading commonly used hardware and software systems.

Oral Communication: Providing user training and assistance on a variety of routine applications; Advising others on the technical development of web pages.

Technology Application: Providing IT customer service and support in troubleshooting, recovering, and resolving recurring hardware/software problems; Providing technical advice or assistance to others.

Largely sedentary role: however, regular moving of IT equipment with the use of a file cart and visiting desks to assist users.
