The Experiential Learning Librarian will play a critical role in serving the Law School community, particularly the faculty and students participating in the Law School's experiential education courses and practical training programs, which consistently rank amongst the strongest in the nation and recently received an A+ grade from the National Jurist.The Experiential Learning Librarian will report to the Associate Director for Research Services. Professional librarians are members of the Law Library Faculty and are hired under the University of Minnesota Academic Professional and Administrative employee classification system, which may lead to promotion and continued appointment based on successful fulfillment of job responsibilities, scholarship, and professional service.Visa Language: This position is not eligible for H-1B or Green Card sponsorship and does not offer a STEM OPT training program.ResponsibilitiesDeveloping strong professional partnerships with law faculty and students participating in the Law School's experiential education courses and practical training programs.Providing formal and informal instruction.Offering research expertise and support.Designing customized services, as needed.Participating in first‑year legal research instruction.Providing reference services on a limited basis.Creating research guides tailored to experiential education courses and practical training programs.Engaging in research and scholarship relevant to law librarianship, legal education, and/or substantive legal subjects.Participating in professional service activities.Representing the Law Library at the campus, regional, and national levels.Performing other duties as assigned.QualificationsRequired QualificationsJ.D. from an A.B.A. accredited law schoolM.L.S. from an A.L.A. accredited graduate schoolMinimum two (2) years of experience as a professional librarian, practicing attorney, or paralegal/paraprofessional in a law practice environmentDemonstrated ability to take initiative and to work independently as well as collaborativelyDemonstrated knowledge of, and experience in, the use of current and emerging technologies used in the law practice environment, including legal AI toolsDemonstrated excellence in analytical as well as written and oral communication skillsDemonstrated evidence of strong instructional and presentation skillsDemonstrated evidence of strong legal research competencyDemonstrated ability to contribute actively to the law library profession through both scholarly productivity and participation in professional activitiesDemonstrated strong service philosophyDesired QualificationsMinimum two (2) years of experience as a practicing attorneyMinimum two (2) years of experience as a professional librarian in an academic law libraryExperience developing methods and processes to enhance outreach and marketing of services to faculty or students participating in experiential education courses or practical training programsAbout the DepartmentRecognized as one of the country's preeminent public law schools, the University of Minnesota Law School is a leader in preparing students to solve our time's complex social, economic, and business issues.
