Performs internship duties in accordance with benchmarked professional positions. Level of duties performed depends on type of program and degree program the student is enrolled in. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment. Exercises no supervision.
This position is an "unclassified" position and has no disciplinary appeal rights to the Municipal Civil Service Commission. This position is likewise subject to at-will employment status and can be terminated at any time for any reason.
The San Antonio Metro Health District (SAMHD) provides public health services to clients, which may include risk for exposure to and possible transmission of vaccine-preventable diseases. Staff in high-risk positions will be required to obtain relevant immunizations, per Review and consideration will be given to requests for exemption from this policy. Work Location Locations vary by assignment
Work Hours Work schedules are flexible and vary by assignment and class schedule, but generally include up to 20 hours per week worked Monday - Friday during normal business hours, between 7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; may vary by location or clinic hours. Essential Job Functions
  • Learns about area of career interest by applying major area of studies, observing, and assisting professionals in the assigned department where work will be performed.
  • May assist in the coordination, administration, and/or monitoring of specific programs.
  • May assist with conducting research, collecting and organizing data, performing analyses, and preparing reports.
  • May propose solutions to existing problems and discuss recommendations with administrative personnel.
  • If assigned to a health clinic, may assist with providing clinical services.
  • Assists with special projects as assigned.
Job Requirements Student Intern I
  • Graduation from high school or a General Education Development (GED) Certificate.
  • Must be enrolled in a U.S. Department of Education accredited Associate's Degree program, vocational or technical school, with the first year of the program completed.
Student Intern II
  • Graduation from high school or a General Education Development (GED) Certificate.
  • Must be enrolled in U.S. Department of Education accredited undergraduate degree program.
Student Intern III
  • Must be enrolled in a U.S. Department of Education accredited degree program, graduate, or postgraduate.
