Athletic Coach Position
Reports To: Head Coach/Activities Director
Education and Experience: 4-yr degree with Full Teacher Certification is preferred; 60 hours with Substitute Certification may be considered
Successful experience playing and/or coaching football is preferred
Essential Job Functions:
- Assesses player's skills and gives input in assigning team positions.
- Follows a practice schedule, plans and coordinates drills, and utilizes practice time to provide both individual, group, and team development.
- Supervises, coaches and instructs student athletes individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, training and techniques of the sport.
- Observes players during games and practices to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
- Maintains standards of student behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times.
- Encourages student athletes to maintain a high academic standard.
- Guides and mentors student-athletes in a positive manner.
- Records daily attendance of a specific group of athletes.
- Assists in summer activities.
- Willing to work nights and weekends.
- Ensures that adequate supervision is provided for all students involved in the program including locker rooms and buses.
- Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury.
- Administers first aid when necessary.
- Responds to risk management/emergency situations and notify emergency responders when appropriate.
- Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student.
- Follows MSHSAA and District regulations.
- Performs other administrative duties as assigned by the head coach.
- Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
- Models non-discriminatory practices in all activities.
- Immediately investigates complaints, responds to rule infractions, reports serious violations of school rules or suspicious or unauthorized activities to school administrators.
