Senior Geotechnical Engineer/Engineering GeologistFull-timeState/Province: HertfordshireBusiness Group: DCSLegal Entity: AECOM Infrastructure and Environment UK LimitedBusiness Line: TransportationWork Location Model: HybridOperating Group: InternationalPrimary Location: UK - St Albans, 10 Bricket RoadWe are seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our Ground Engineering team in St Albans. The successful candidate will have strong geotechnical design experience and the ability to work independently, lead junior staff, and manage project deliverables from feasibility to final design.Job DutiesDelivery: Day‑to‑day responsibility for project delivery, ensuring technical quality, adherence to budget and programme.Provide Expertise: Active input to team/client technical review meetings, ownership of decisions and alternative ideas.Commercial: Maintain client satisfaction, respond to client requirements, develop fee proposals and bids.Mentoring: Own personal/professional development and on‑the‑job mentoring of junior staff.QualificationsBEng / MEng in Civil Engineering or BSc and/or MSc in Geotechnical Engineering.Chartered Engineer (IEng/CEng) status preferred or on track to achieve within next year.Strong knowledge of UK ground conditions and investigation practices.Understanding of current design codes, standards and best practices; open to new methods.Collaborative project delivery skills and client satisfaction focus.Knowledge of ground condition interpretation, parametric assessment and correlation methods.Experience with data management software (e.g. gINT, Open Ground) advantageous.Well‑rounded experience in geotechnical design (earthworks, foundations, retaining structures, slope stabilisation) and use of design software (Slope/W, Wallap).Familiarity with production of geotechnical analysis and design packages (drawings, risk assessments, specifications, design reports).Application of CDM Regulations / Safety in Design in design and ground investigation.Experience with specialised fields (highways, railways) desirable.Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to produce clear reports and presentations.Willingness to travel throughout UK.BenefitsHybrid working model.Career development opportunities, including technical practice networks and AECOM University.Competitive compensation and benefits package tailored to lifestyle.Volunteering days and other well‑being programs.We celebrate diversity, including neurodiversity.
