Set up and operate numerical control machines or machining centers to perform various machine functions such as cutting, drilling, milling, reaming, boring, and broaching of metallic and nonmetallic work pieces
Perform some machine maintenance
Ability to start machine and monitor displays and machine operation to detect malfunctions
Observe and listen to machine operation to detect malfunctions such as worn or damaged cutting tools
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume and to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry
Regular attendance, ability to arrive at work punctually, ability to work on-site, ability to work overtime
Measure work piece for conformance to specifications
Capable of proper set up, interpretation and verification of correctness of program to be used on machine
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, and related technical data to determine tooling requirements, setup procedures, control settings, and machining methods and sequences
Manipulate controls and enter commands to index cutting tool to specified set point and to start machine
Notify supervisor of discrepancies
Must be able to read and interpret tape measures, calipers and micrometers
Mount, align, and secure tooling, attachments, and work piece on machine using overhead crane
Stop machine to change cutting tools and setup according to required machining sequence or to measure parts for conformance to blueprint specifications
Operate machine manually to perform functions when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions as applicable
Maintains production record of parts and jobs fabricated as required by the Department Manager
Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently, ability to work in a fast-paced environment, ability to interchange with others in the department
