High school diploma / GED or equivalent
Experience in shipboard installation, repair and/or manufacturing environments or formal welding training
Ability to perform the functions of the craft to comply with procedural standards and policies in a safe manner
Candidates must be willing to travel and accept extended out of area work assignments, as well as various working shift assignments
A DoD secret clearance is required as a condition of employment
Must be physically capable of routinely working in industrial facilities and shipboard environments (submarines and surface ships in maintenance availabilities, drydocked and waterborne), going up and down ladders in narrow spaces, working in environments occasionally requiring respiratory protection and other personal protective equipment
Ability to learn or use Navy ship's drawings, technical manuals, ship's system manuals, task group instructions (TGIs), and controlled work packages
