Processes emergency and non-emergency transfers to other VA facilities or private hospitals.
Provides advisory and technical assistance to patients, administrative staff, and professional staff regarding medical care.
The Medical Support Assistant (MSA) in the Inpatient Department of the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center provides medical administrative support to one or more wards and is an integral member of the team by effectively carrying out day-to-day administrative operations of the ward.
Performs basic eligibility, co-pays and preauthorization requirements for specific coverage.
Receives and handles concerns ensuring that quality service is rendered in a timely, competent, and caring manner.
Maintains electronic entries associated with inpatient care, and verifies and/or updates demographic and insurance information.
Coordinates with medical clinics for required tests, pre-operative procedures, therapies, and scheduled appointments.
Synchronizes the daily activities of the ward with the charge nurse.
Ensures encounter forms are completed in order to obtain appropriate workload credit.
Receives telephone calls for the unit, records, and relays messages to appropriate staff.
Schedules, cancels, and reschedules patient appointments and/or consults.
Monitors the electronic wait list and enters no show information when necessary.
Interprets, and verifies provider orders in accordance with VHA national scheduling guidelines.
